Indian fashion industry has evolved and come a long way. Earlier Indian fashion & apparel industry did not experiment with designs, colors and styles of the cloths. There was limited use of fabrics as well as people were less style conscious in comparison to modern times.
During the late 90's, there was a big turnaround in the Indian apparel & fashion industry, cloths were crafted with elegant designs, distinct patterns and alluring colors. In 60's, ladies apparels mainly focused on tight 'churidars' and 'kurtas'. These apparels were designed using coated polyester fabric and designs were mostly one dimensional, as it only focused on Indian traditional culture.
However, in 70's, the industry started experimenting with the designs and patterns of the cloths. Some of the noted contributions of the industry was the introduction of bell-bottoms and flower prints in sarees & kurtis. It was in early 80's, first fashion store was opened in Mumbai. Foreign fashion brands had just started making inroads into the Indian fashion market. Western foreign brands didn't had much variety to offer in fabrics. This is where, Indian fashion industry enjoyed upper hand, as different types of fabrics were available such as silk, cotton, nylon, woolen, georgette and linen.
During late 90's and till-date, Indian fashion apparel industry has been recognized as a major contributor to India's GDP. Fashion industries around the world have appreciated, Indian fashion industry for their artistic designs and mesmerizing patterns on cloths.
Fashion shows take place in every part of India, where fashion designers display their beautifully crafted dresses, which are in accordance with the latest fashion trend prevailing in the industry. Although fashion has no boundaries, but it varies from country to country and tradition to tradition.
